Nestle suspends halal products due to pork traces

Nestle said on Tuesday it was suspending all production of its Herta halal products after a laboratory found traces of pork.

“We have decided to carry out DNA tests so this will delay deliveries … As a result we are suspending production in France until we find a new production process,” a spokeswoman said.

Disamping itu, didapati ada dikalangan kita sibuk memilih kad-kad ucapan Hari Kekasih, menempah cenderahati, jambangan bunga dan tempahan untuk makan malam bagi merayakan hari tersebut bersama pasangan masing-masing. Pihak hotel pula menawarkan pakej-pakej istimewa seumpama 'MAKAN MALAM HARI KEKASIH  ATAU HIDANGAN MAKAN MALAM ROMANTIK' yang mempunyai tujuan untuk menyambut Hari Kekasih.

Brigitte Bardot protests kosher animal slaughter

PARIS (JTA) -- Former French actress and national sex symbol Brigitte Bardot is leading an animal rights campaign against ritual kosher and halal methods of slaughtering animals.
More othan 2,000 posters have been plastered throughout France since Jan. 4 to “inform” people of the “Middle Age” methods used to “slit the throats of animals without anesthesia in order to please God,” according to the Brigitte Bardot Foundation, which fights for animal rights.
Bardot, 77, said in a statement that her foundation, along with other activists, had to battle with authorities to gain the right to criticize the religious practices through their posters. 

Pig problems in Halal community

The Indonesian Health Consumers Empowerments Foundation may file a class action lawsuit against the Health Ministry and the Food and Drugs Monitoring Agency (BPOM). It has been claimed that there was a failure in informing the public about pig enzymes in a meningitis vaccine.

The Jakarta Post has reported that the possible lawsuit may take place due to a meningitis vaccine intended for Indonesian muslim pilgrims which contains pig enzymes.

Violation against consumers

“They have violated the 1999 Consumer Protection law and the 2008 Public Information Law, which guarantee the public and consumers the right to be informed about safety and the details of a product’s ingredients - in this case, the Novartis meningitis vaccine,” said Marius Widjajarta, Indonesian Health Consumers Empowerment Foundation chairman.

 The report stated that the Indonesian government wants the vaccine to replace the vaccine made by Britain’s GlaxoSmithKline that Indonesian hajj pilgrims were using.

Containing pig enzymes

The Indonesia Ulema Council (MUI) stated that the vaccines made by Novartis and the Tian Yuan in China were acceptable for Muslims, and that Glaxo’s vaccine was forbidden.

According to the report, the MUI also said that the Glaxo vaccine contained traces of pig enzymes; however the other two vaccines have no traces.

In a rebuttal to this view, there are some Muslims scientists who state that Norvatis vaccine in addition to the Glaxo vaccine must also be declared as forbidden, due to contact with pig enzymes in the manufacturing process.

The Muslim scientists refer to international academic journals which say that research institutes produced seed stock using the Mueller-Hinton medium and thus “came into contact” with pig enzymes, said the Jakarta Post. And the scientist believes that both companies received their seed vaccine stock from these research institutes.

The Council claimed that the Novartis and the Tian Yuan vaccines were not contaminated by pig enzymes in their manufacturing processes, as they originally contained only bovine elements.

Greater Cooperation on Halal Certification among MABIMS Members

Religious ministers of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysian and Singapore (MABIMS) are en route to greater cooperation in recognising Halal certification.

This was said by Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad bin Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahman October 2010 during a press conference at the end of the 14th Informal MABIMS Meeting at the Empire Hotel and Country Club, Jerudong.

MUI to set single national halal standard

AKARTA: The Indonesia Ulema Council (MIU) says it will set a single national standard for certifying halal food to replace 41 world-class institutions promoting different standards in Indonesia.

The MUI’s food, medicine and cosmetics analysis body (LPPOM MUI) head Lukmanul Hakim said that the 41 institutions had different standards, with only eight referring to the MUI.

The first government-owned Halal analysis laboratory will be built in Bandar Enstek, here in Nilai next year, with the first phase to cost RM27.3 million, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom.

Bila dah siap breakfast, terus pergi ke Golden Screen Cinema Alamanda untuk tonton The Chronicles Of Narnia. Isteri saya dah lama mengajak pergi tengok wayang, semalam baru dapat menontonnya. Panggung wayang penuh dengan kanak-kanak  dan keluarga. Lepas nonton Narnia, saya pergi shuppin barang2 dapur Carrefour Alamanda.Yang saya tertarik di carrefour terdapat 3 atau 4 kiosk komputer halal directory. Saya dan keluarga selalu datang kesini tetapi tak pernah atau jarang sangat orang ramai yang menggunakan kemudahan ini. Kebetulan semalam ada kawan sms saya bertanyakan hotel Shangri-La Putrajaya dan Equatorial Bangi ada sijil halal ke tidak. Jadi saya terus ke kiosk Komputer Halal Directory untuk mengetahui status halal hotel tersebut. Saya dan isteri mencuba kali pertama  kiosk tersebut, bila di cari-cari nama kedua-dua hotel tersebut tiada dalam list halal JAKIM.
Lepas tu saya terus sms kawan saya, ' Hotel Shangri-La dan Equatorial xde sijil halal, lebih baik carik hotel lain,..kawan saya  reply sms  ' yelar...susah jugak kan , kalau kta selalu pakai redah aje hotel2 ni, cuba avoid sikit2. husband akak particular sgt dgn benda halal haram ni' saya reply sms..'bagus la kalau mcm tu..kta semua mesti alert  pasal benda halal haram ini.
Sekarang ni dah banyak kemudahan kita untuk check status sijil halal untuk product ni. Tahniah  HDC kerana memperkenalkan Kiosk Komputer Halal Directory. Orang ramai  atau pengguna mesti menggunakan kemudahan yang disediakan!
Lepas tu saya bersama isteri  pergi cari Spegetty, kerana saya teringin  nak makan speggety Bolongna! rupa-rupanya susah nak dapat cheese parmesan yang ada sijil halal! semuanya tiada sijil halal! Isteri saya bagi tau dalam cheese ada rennet, rennet adalah kritikal! kita kena check betul pastikan ada sijil halal. Kalau rennet dari enzim lembu kena pastikan lembu tersebut disembelih atau tidak. kalau enzim dari babi namanya Pepsin, terdapat juga cheese yang menggunakan enzim pepsin, Tak tau kat malaysia terdapat cheese dari enzim pepsin. Cari punya carik memang tak terdapat cheese parmesan yang ada sijil halal. last-last saya beli kraft cheese yang  ada sijil halal AFIC!
Maka malam tu, saya sekeluarga makan Speggetty Bolongna! yang halal...

From 1946 upto to 2006, QBB Ghee was first produced by Queensland Butter Board, later known as Butter Marketing Board and finally known as Butter Producers Co-operative Federation (BPCF), Brisbane, Australia. This product was up to 2006 pure butterfat ghee produced from the milk of dairy cows. I am sure of that as I was the last general manager of this firm. Based on a joint decision by all shareholders, BPCF's factory and warehouse in Brisbane was closed down in 2006 and BPCF was finally liquidated in 2007. The agent for QBB for Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei was all the while Sadka Bros. in Singapore, a firm owned by Singaporeans and Australians of Jewish descent. These people do not eat pork and will never condone to lard being added into their product. However somewhere after 2000, they sold of their shareholdings to Dairy Farmers of Australia, who eventually changed the name to QBB Pte. Ltd., Singapore. If you were to look at the Information Resources issued by ACRA of Singapore, the principal activities of QBB Pte. Ltd. now is preparing, canning and preserving of livestock and livestock products which indicate animal fat and tissue products. This completely different from dairy products which indicate cow's milk based products.

Operasi ini diketuai oleh pegawai Cawangan Pemantauan dan Penguatkuasaan Bahagian Hab Halal JAKIM, En. Mohd Amri Abdullah bersama En. Azizi Ali pegawai penguatkuasa KPDNKK Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur telah menjalankan pemerikasaan pada 27/10/2010 bermula jam 12.20 tengah hari dan berakhir pada 14.15 petang. Hasil dari pemeriksaan mengejut ke atas premis tersebut, pemilik premis berkenaan telah menggunakan serta mempamerkan logo halal JAKIM pada pintu masuk premis makanan tersebut.

The Halal Industry Development Corporation Sdn Bhd (HDC) did not have proper documentations for rebranding works and expenditures for its World Halal Forum (WHF).

The international event was the annual agenda of KasehDia Sdn Bhd, the consultant and advertising company which published the Halal Journal.

Halal food certification board on cards

The government has moved to form a high-profile committee to recommend ways to establish a board for certification for halal foods after repeated appeals from processed food exporters.
The traders have set a target to grab a portion of the $660 billion global market for halal products. In the last six months, around a dozen processed food traders received about $250 million of export orders on condition that the products must be accredited with an authorised halal certification body.
Halal foods are foods that are allowed under Islamic dietary guidelines.

'No trace of pork' in Pure Ghee

The makers of QBB Pure Ghee said it has applied for a new halal certification from Malaysian authorities, following recent findings that the product has “no trace of pork or substance of porcine origin”.

Earlier this year, QBB lost its halal certification from the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) for its Pure Ghee, a product that is widely used for traditional Malay delicacies and pastries in Brunei.
The revocation of the halal seal was based on a report by the Malaysian Chemistry Department (JKM) which had earlier found a certain substance in the product that it labelled as “foreign”.

In a statement, QBB emphasised that “Jakim and JKM had never categorised the substance as non-halal as they could not identify it, in the first place”.

Shocked father Stephen Forse spotted the mouse in a loaf he was using to make sandwiches for his children.

Mr Forse bought the bread from Tesco Online and had already used some of it when he noticed "a dark-coloured object embedded in the corner of three or four slices".

Why is 'halal' food so dangerous?

When it's available, I buy kosher for certain foods and travel across Paris to my favorite butcher who sells halal products. I know some people who choose kosher meals on flights because they believe that it's going to be better than the standard meals. The way some are reacting to this scandal that's not a scandal, you would think that eating halal will somehow force Islam on you and you will be a changed person. I can somewhat appreciate one mayor's concern that by selling halal only products at a Quick (when other Quick restaurants sell non-halal) might promote segregation instead of bringing people together but it still sounds like a stretch.

Malaysian Indian Restaurant Owner Association president Datuk R. Ramalingam Pillai said with Jakim's halal logo as the sole certificate from next year, he said: "We welcome the move, but there's only one problem, the process of getting the logo is too rigid."

Persatuan Pengguna Islam Malaysia (PPIM) menggesa agar orang ramai terutama pengguna Islam supaya menghentikan segera pengambilan minyak sapi jenama QBB Pure Ghee keluaran syarikat QBI Packaging Sdn Bhd.

Ini adalah ekoran daripada penarikan balik  status halal minyak sapi tersebut oleh JAKIM berkuatkuasa pada 19hb Ogos yang lalu. Menurut JAKIM, minyak sapi berkenaan mengandungi elemen yang meragukan dan tidak boleh dimakan oleh umat Islam.
