Only 16 Pahang hotels have halal certs for restaurants

KUANTAN: Only 16 out of the 428 hotels in Pahang have obtained the halal certification for their restaurants.

State tourism office director Idros Yahya urged those who had yet to do so to get one as part of their efforts to provide better services to tourists, including Muslim visitors.
“We have noticed that requests for halal food outlets and restaurants in hotels have increased.
“In the next five years, we anticipate the demand for halal food outlets will be more pressing and those involved in the tourism industry must take heed of the situation,” he said in his speech before opening a seminar on halal management and certification organised by the state tourism office and religious affairs department here yesterday.
Speaking to reporters later, Idros said it was the first time such a seminar was held and it would be carried out from time to time to ensure that major tourism players understood the halal concept and how it could help boost the industry.
He said the participants, Malays and non-Malays alike, comprised representatives from various groups such as travel and tour agencies, tourist guides, chambers of commerce and even local authority.
